Steel Magnolias

by Robert Harlingdirected by Zöe Freedman
Thursday 1st – Saturday 3rd February 2018
The Carriageworks Main Stage

Six friends gather in Truvy’s beauty salon to discuss love and friendship, share their hopes and dreams and support each other through the ups and downs of life.

The play (on which the classic 1980s film is based) follows the lives of six strong, individual and interesting women. The story covers Shelby’s decision to have a child despite her diabetes and the impact this has on her mother M’Lynn, Clairee’s friendship with the curmudgeon Ouiser, Annelle’s transformation from a shy, anxious newcomer to revival-tent Christian, and Truvy’s relationships with the men in her life.

This is a moving, powerful and often funny piece of theatre.

Leeds Arts Centre will be performing Steel Magnolias in February 2018. Currently the production is still at the planning stage, but we’ll be putting more information up on this page as soon as we can.
