Neil Rathmell’s new play, Rough Sleepers, is set in an overgrown graveyard outside a disused chapel. Just the place for a ‘gentleman of the road’ to take shelter for the winter with only the quiet sleepers in their graves for company. The vicar makes him welcome, but some of her parishioners take a different view.
Just right for the Hallowe’en season, with humour and pathos, thunder and lightning, birdsong, music and pyrotechnics!
This is the third time Leeds Arts Centre has premiered one of Neil Rathmell’s plays.>
Leeds Arts Centre will be performing Rough Sleepers in October 2019.
We’ll be holding a pre-audition reading at the Carriageworks on Wednesday 17th April, with auditions following on either Monday 20th or Wednesday 22nd May. If you would be interested in being involved – either on or off stage – then please contact us for more information.
Auditions for speaking parts – Captain, Sylvia, Col Megginson, Mrs Megginson, Brenda and Charlie – will require the auditionee to perform (with script in hand) one of the extracts in the audition materials download below.
The scenes chosen for Col Megginson, Mrs Megginson and Charlie take the form of a dialogue with another character. That character’s lines will be spoken by a member of the audition panel.
Auditions for non-speaking parts – The Dead (3 male, 1 female) and Lucy – will consist only of a discussion of the nature of the part, its physical demands, costume, make-up and rehearsal schedule.
Both the script and the audition pieces can be downloaded here; if you’re not a member, please get in touch if you intend to come to the reading or auditions, so that we can look out for you on the evening.
Tickets for Rough Sleepers are not currently on sale, but will be available to purchase through the Carriageworks Box Office nearer to the production dates. Keep an eye on this site, or at www.carriageworkstheatre.co.uk, for details of availability.
