As autumn turns to winter and Hallowe’en approaches, a gentleman tramp, looking for somewhere to shelter from the wind and rain, finds just the place in an overgrown village graveyard. He makes friends with the residents below ground and the vicar above, none of whom raise any objection to his spending the winter there. But to others he’s just a rough sleeper who needs to be got rid of.
Leeds Arts Centre is pleased to present this new play by Neil Rathmell, confident that audiences will enjoy it as much as they enjoyed his other plays, Unspoken in 2017 and It’s A Miracle and The Colin Atkins Story in 2018.
Funny, scary and sad by turns, Rough Sleepers will provide entertainment that's just right for the Hallowe’en season.
Leeds Arts Centre will be performing Rough Sleepers in October 2019.
We’ll be holding a pre-audition reading at the Carriageworks on Wednesday 17th April, with auditions following on either Monday 20th or Wednesday 22nd May. If you would be interested in being involved – either on or off stage – then please contact us for more information.
Auditions for speaking parts – Captain, Sylvia, Col Megginson, Mrs Megginson, Brenda and Charlie – will require the auditionee to perform (with script in hand) one of the extracts in the audition materials download below.
The scenes chosen for Col Megginson, Mrs Megginson and Charlie take the form of a dialogue with another character. That character’s lines will be spoken by a member of the audition panel.
Auditions for non-speaking parts – The Dead (3 male, 1 female) and Lucy – will consist only of a discussion of the nature of the part, its physical demands, costume, make-up and rehearsal schedule.
Both the script and the audition pieces can be downloaded here; if you’re not a member, please get in touch if you intend to come to the reading or auditions, so that we can look out for you on the evening.
Tickets for Rough Sleepers are not currently on sale, but will be available to purchase through the Carriageworks Box Office nearer to the production dates. Keep an eye on this site, or at www.carriageworkstheatre.co.uk, for details of availability.
